By announcing a slew of measures for the aged and the infirm, women and children, the girl child in particular, as well as for specially affected groups like transgender, the Hon’ble Chief Minister has set new standards in social governance to enable weaker sections to live with dignity and to be able to reach their full potential.

Social welfare Department is implementing the following schemes: 

  • Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Ninaivu marriage Assistance Scheme.
  • Dr. Dharmambal Ammaiyar Ninaivu Widow Remarriage Assistance Scheme.
  • E.V.R. Maniammaiyar Ninaivu Marriage Assistance Scheme for Daughters of Poor widows.
  • Annai Theresa Ninaivu Marriage Assistance Scheme for Orphan Girls.

6. HONARABLE CHEIF MINISTER GIRL CHILD PROTECTION SCHEME :

Objectives of the Scheme

 

Promoting Family planning, Eradicating Female infanticide and promoting the welfare of girl children in poor families and to raise the status of the girl children.

Quantum of Assistance

 

 

Under Scheme-I  : Rs.50,000/- Fixed Deposit Receipt in the  name of girl child for the family which has only one girl child (From 01.08.2011)

Under Scheme-II : Fixed Deposit Receipt for Rs.25,000/- for each girl child where the family has two girl children only.(From 01.08.2011)

An amount of Rs.150/- as monthly incentive shall be given to the girl child on completion of 5 years from the date of deposit and upto 18th year of deposit for her educational purpose.

THE PROTECTION OF WOMEN FROM DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ACT – 2005
Central Act No. 43 / 2005

The Protection of women from Domestic Violence Act-2005 (PWDVA) is a civil law, that recognizes a women’s right to reside in a violence free home and provides emergency remedies incase this right is violated. This law attempts to equalize relationships within the home and can be used in addition to other laws, such as criminal provisions on cruelty. Judiciary plays a crucial role in facilitating a women’s access to justice and her interaction with the justice system.
This act was passed in the year 2005 and came in to force on the 26th October 2006.

TAMIL NADU TRANSGENDERS WELFARE

Trans genders faces stigma both from family and society on the whole and goes through different forms of harassment. There are no job reservation or employment opportunity due to age old discrimination against the. Such discrimination by Society in general forces them to discontinue their education and leave their families. They will not have with them any documents like birth certificate. Educational certificate. Community certificate and other essential identity cards like ration cars, Voter I.D.etc. When they leave their families. To address the issues of the trans genders. A welfare board for Trans genders has been constituted by the Government in the year of 2008.

CRADLE BABY SCHEME

To counter the menace of female infanticide which was prevalent in certain parts of Tamil nadu and to save the girl babies from the clutches of death. “Cradle Baby Scheme” was first started by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu during 1992 in Salem District. Under this Scheme. Cradles were placed at important places to received the female children abandoned by the biological parents due to various socio economic compulsions.
